well it is cheap and good, and clearly I need to expand my thinking. I tend to buy a ham (or other roast on sale if its not ham season) when I'm broke.. which on the surface makes no sense at all. Ultimately though, I can get dinner for the and I (the ham + veggies) then sandwiches the next day for lunch, then a casserole or two, then a batch of lentils. Same holds true for a roast or a turkey. I can make many meals out of it all the way down to the bones.

that makes sense to me In my last kitchen, there was really heavy emphasis on making every single part of an animal taste good, and wasting nothing. I'm not much of a ham fan, but chicken? Definitely. Several meals, and the bones for stock, which sometimes I'll reduce down to a demiglace for the backbone for extra lux sauce, though that takes saving up a few carcasses first. But even with only one carcass, there can still be good stock for soup and light sauces.

brown rice is indeed nice I like to mix toasted sesame seeds in mine.

brown rice will fill you faster and cheaper than white rice. White rice has a higher glycemic index. For me, eating cheaply is also about finding the most filling foods for my money.

brown jasmine rice is really good and I like that purple rice they "Forbidden" rice. But both are expensive so most people just add a little bit to regular rice for color or flavor.

I like the purple rice too And Thai black rice for coconut rice pudding. Crunchy and tender at the same time, it's fun to eat.

Anything vegan ; ) I made a huge bowl of orzo 'salad' tonight, orzo, garbanzo & red kidney beans, tomatoes, red onion, local basil & mint and homemade red wine vinaigrette. Simple and yummy.

It already has nationwide Meat production is down in all livestock categories. It's estimated to already be the equivalent of the entire city of Atlanta becoming vegetarian. People are using meat just for seasoning more often.

fine thing, IMO I'm an appreciative omnivore, and every few years, a big expensive steak really hits the spot, but I do think it would be good if overall people ate less meat. And anybody who is a meat-eater I want they should consider the less popular cuts and bits, vis not wasting that which died, plus it's all delicious if prepared properly.
