my first time ever to try them! do you need to saute the garlic first? or did i just use too much? it was almost spicy!

I saute chopped garlic in butter and add the milk and simmer it. I think the potatoes turn out much tastier if the milk and butter are warm. So you probley added too much raw garlic and so it was a bit sharp tasting.
